Portraits with Roshana & Melissa: Celebrating a New Chapter

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Roshana and Melissa, the vibrant and inspiring duo behind the “Sis You Can Do This” podcast. After joining them as a guest to speak on Women in Entrepreneurship, I was thrilled when they reached out for updated portraits to celebrate the launch of their YouTube channel.

Our goal for this session was to capture their authentic energy, sisterhood, and the empowering essence of their brand. Both casual and polished looks allowed us to show different sides of their personalities—warm, relatable, and powerful.

Tips for Photographing Duos

Photographing two people in the same frame brings a different dynamic than solo portraits. It’s not just about capturing good light and composition—it’s about capturing connection. Here are a few tips I used during this session that can help if you're shooting a pair:

1. Encourage Interaction
Instead of stiff, posed shots, I asked Roshana and Melissa to engage with each other—laugh, talk, or even lean into one another. This helped build chemistry and captured the real bond between them.

2. Balance the Frame
With noticeable height differences or differing energies, use seated poses or movement to balance the shot visually. We alternated between standing and seated looks to create variety without disrupting harmony.

3. Play with Symmetry and Contrast
Sometimes I mirrored their poses for a clean, editorial feel. Other times, I leaned into their individual personalities by giving each their own stance or expression while still keeping them connected within the frame.

4. Pay Attention to Connection Points
Small things like matching eye lines, hand placement, or leaning in the same direction make a big difference in how unified the image feels. Even subtle shifts in posture can change the whole vibe of the shot.

I’m incredibly proud of these two women and everything they continue to build through their platform. Check out their latest podcast episode and be sure to subscribe for more faith-filled and uplifting content.
